If you are choosing to have assigned seats at your wedding reception, you will need a way to tell guests where to sit. At Amazing Graze Barn, we are a fan of having a name at each place setting. It adds an extra personal touch, even more so than just a general seating chart. We know you’ll love looking back on photos of the day and seeing familiar names, reminding you of the special people that joined. It’s the details that make the day!
We understand that place cards can be expensive though, chipping away at your budget. It is tough to spend large amounts of money on such a (physically) small visual element of your wedding. But, there are ways around spending a fortune as name cards are simple to DIY, even if you do not consider yourself crafty.
Here are simple wedding reception name cards that you can DIY and save yourself the dollars!
Name Cards for Winter Weddings
Rosemary
A crazy, yet stunningly simple idea. Purchase a pack of 4x6 white cardstock notecards, write your guests name with a Sharpie or pretty glitter pen, punch two holes at the top, and stick the rosemary through.
Mini Christmas Trees
Your guests will be walking in a Winter Wonderland with these name cards. Simply hot glue small tress to a wood stand and write your guest’s name on them. These are perfect placed in the center of the plate.
Name Cards for Spring Weddings
Mini Flower Pots
These place card holders scream Spring. Simply purchase enough small plants or succulents and top with a name card. To ensure the name card stay put, hot glue the card to a toothpick and slide into the soil. The best part about these are they are substantial enough to double as the wedding favor.
Small Stones
Purchase smooth rocks from a craft store, or make it a more personal element by collecting rocks from a place that is special to you and your groom. Clean the stone and write each guests name on the rock with a paint pen.
Name Cards for Summer Weddings
Dipped Feathers
Purchase white feathers from a craft store and dip the end in a color that compliments your wedding colors. Write or print the guest name on a tag and attach to the feather.
Dried Citrus
Simple, elegant, and oh so Summery. Use dried citrus to create a name card for the table that is (almost) entirely edible. Use oranges, lemons, or limes, whichever goes best with your color scheme. Watch the DIY Video here.
Name Cards for Fall Weddings
Pine Cones
Practically free if you can gather them in your yard or at a park, jazzed up pinecones make the perfect holder for name cards in an elegant and rustic venue like the Amazing Graze Barn. Get the full material list and step-by-step instructions here.
Mini Pumpkins
Is there anything more Fall than a pumpkin? Simply purchase bags of small pumpkins (if using real be sure not to get them too early in advance), gift tags, and twine or string, then write the name of your guests and attach the tag to the pumpkin.
Bonus Tip:
Most of these ideas require you to hand write your guest’s name. If you are not confident in doing that, or wish to save yourself the time, you can choose a pretty font online and print from a home printer.
Even better, if you have a bridesmaid or family member with excellent handwriting, this is a great thing to ask their help with. Simply give them the tags, supplies, and guest list. They can work on the tags over time and deliver them to you at the Rehearsal Dinner.
