How Do You Describe Your Style?
It’s important for brides and grooms to be upfront with a DJ before hiring. You’ll want to ask their style, to make sure that it matches with yours. Or, if it does not, then is the DJ comfortable with your style and prepared to adapt to it? You want the tone of your reception to match your style as a couple. And above all, you want to be comfortable and have a blast! Having a DJ that is committed to making the event about you and your groom will help achieve these goals.
Can We Provide a List of Songs we Do and Do Not Want to Hear?
Not all songs are created equally! And not all songs match the aesthetic you are trying to create for your reception. It’s okay to have a list of “do not” play songs to keep your day on theme. It’s also a great idea to have a handful of songs that you definietly want played. If you’re not sure what these are, start by filling in the blank to… I would look back on my day and feel sad if I did not have memories dancing with ________ (person) to ________ (song title).
Are Guests Allowed to Make Song Requests?
Different DJ’s have different preferences on this ask. As a couple, if you feel strongly about this one way or the other, then you should ensure your DJ will accommodate.
Asking this question ahead of time could help you plan. If your DJ does allow for song requests, but only if asked in advance, then you may need to include a way for guests to request on your invitations.
Remember, it is your day, but it’s often worth noting what the experts advise as they have likely been to more weddings and can give the best possible advice for the party.

Will You Act as Our Emcee Throughout the Evening?
This is a vital question to ask your DJ. You want to make sure that you both are on the same page about all his/her responsibilities throughout the evening. Also, be sure to ask for communication about breaks. How many will your DJ be taking throughout the evening, and what is their plan to keep your night running smoothly even during his/her “off” times?
How Do You Get Guests to the Dance Floor?
Especially if you know you have a shyer guest list, you’ll want to warn your DJ, but also hear his/her game plan for helping attendees feel comfortable. It’s a celebration - and having others around you take part in the party is why they are there.
