Your first Thanksgiving and Christmas season as an engaged couple can be so fun. Say goodbye to attending parties on your own, and just imagine your new diamond sparkling by the Christmas tree lights!
But practically speaking, this time can come with busyness and stress too. Check out our best tips to not only handling but thriving through the holidays with your future forever.
Lean on Your Future Spouse
The good news is you’re not facing this busy season alone. You’ll have your future spouse by your side the whole time. It’s a great thing to count on each other for support, and honestly you will need to for the rest of your life. This is the perfect time to get into the habit of depending on your love in a new way.
Communicate with Your Future Spouse and Family
You know what they say, “communication is key”. No exceptions for the holiday season.
During this time, we find it best to overcommunicate with your love and your families. Communicate everything from logistics, to events, to emotions, and wants.
Schedule Everything Early
If you’re not a planner by nature, now is a good time to start. Sitting down in October, or even earlier, will allow you time to plan out your weekends between now and Christmas.
Use a digital calendar, add the events, and invite your future spouse to them so that you are both aware of what’s coming up. Doing this early allows you to prioritize the events that are most important to you.
Create Your Own Traditions
Perhaps you and your future spouse will not logistically be able to make it it everything that you typically would. How about starting your own traditions?
Maybe it’s something simple like a Christmas movie night just the two of you, or perhaps it’s a party at your house with both sides of the family.
As a bonus tip, consider making your traditions something that can be done on a week night after work, or during another less typical party time like breakfast or lunch on Saturday or Sunday. Find a time that is empty and manageable.
