A new marriage is in your future. Some days you may feel like you and your fiance have it all together. Other days, you may be struggling.
No matter where you are today, remember that what God has joined together, let no man tear apart. It’s vital to shower your marriage in prayer, asking for God’s hand to be upon it at all times. That’s easier said than done of course. Here are a few prayer prompts to help you get started.
Prayer for Peace
God, I beg for peace to rule in my home. May it flow between my future spouse and I, and be passed down to future children. We know you speak of a peace that “passess all understanding” (Philippians 4:6) and I ask for that very peace right now. Help me to let it rest in my heart, and allow it to fill my marriage.
Prayer for Strength
Dear Lord, this world is tough. It’s brutal and seeks to destroy. Would you please bless us with strength to not only get through the days, but to build each other up, and help your Kingdom flourish despite it all.
Prayer for Fruits of the Spirit
Father, help us to be distinguised from unbelievers with the Fruits of the Spirit. May we see them, and nourish them, in our own lives and in the lives of our future spouse.
Galations 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Prayer for Health
God, we thank you for the health you have blesses us with thus far. Help us to place all worries in your hands. We humbly request that you make a way, conquering any sickness that threatens our lives and the lives of our loved ones. But above all, please gift us with the grace to acknowledge your will, and trust that anything you do is out of love for us.
Prayer for Mutual Growth
Dear Father, my desire is that we step out in our faith, rather than sitting around waiting for motiviation. We know what we should do to grow in your Word, and we want to do that. Please grant us with strength, drive, and mutual respect to accomplish growth together.
Prayer for Future Fights
God, we know that disagreements are unavoidable. But we know all too well that fights cause stress and often times are rooted from misunderstandings. Please provide clarity even amist the heat of the moment, a desire to fight fairly, and a need to get through them together.
Prayer for Opportunities
Dear Lord, please open doors in front us, and speak to us when they are ours to go through. Please make a way right now, going ahead of us, closing all the wrong doors too. We ask that what you have for us come in your timing - not too soon, not too late. And help us above all to seize the opportunities gifted by you.
Prayer to Resist Temptations
Lord, grant us the strength and will power to resist temptations that could damage our marriage. May we identify them early, and run in the opposite direction. Gift us with protection and perseverence. Help us to always remember what you have for us is far better than what this world can offer us.
Prayer for Understanding of Each Other
God, I ask for a deeper understanding of my future spouse. While we’ve been together for a while, we will always be two different people, living and doing life in different ways. May we come to know one another more deeply, and celebrate our differences.
Prayer for Long-lasting Connection
Lord, please gift us the ability to always remember when we first met and the strong love that grew between us then. Help us love each other in practical ways, keeping us bound together. May we believe your words in Matthew 19:6 “What therefore od hath joined together, let not man pust asunder”.
Prayer for Maintaining Vows
Father, we know that you are the only one who can help us keep our vows to eachother. May you grant us the desire and strength to keep our promises to ourselves and to you, each and every day.
Prayer for Joy
God, please bless our marriage with an abundance of joy. We started off strong, and want to only grow stronger. We want the best for our marriage and to show others that you are reason for our joy.
Prayer for Forgiveness
Father, your Word tells us to forgive others as You have also forgiven us. Allow me to let go of any lingering anger, hurt, or pain, so that we can begin our marriage with soft hearts, choosing to love.
Prayer for Passion
God, I ask that you fuse my future spouse and I together. Join us with spiritual, emotional, and physical intimacy. May we long to grow closer to you and toward each other for the rest of our lives.
